Braces Won’t Get in the Way of Your Summer Adventures

Water Fight, Summer Fun

It’s summer! With school almost finished, it’s time to start planning for your summer recreational activities. So what does this mean for you if you have braces?

Planning a Trip? Plan Ahead

If you are planning a vacation of two weeks or more that could interfere with your regularly scheduled orthodontic appointments, call ahead and make an appointment before you leave.

We’ll make necessary adjustments and send you on your way, keeping your treatment on schedule.

Be Safe With Your Activities

If you’re participating in summer sports like tee ball, baseball, kickball, soccer — or even just planning to jump on a trampoline — you should wear a mouth guard. Not only will this help protect your teeth from injury, it’ll also protect you or your child’s braces, saving you time and money.

Boil down mouth guards are inexpensive and easy to use. Your family dentist or local orthodontist can also help fit you for a mouth guard.

Enjoy The Tastes Of Summer

Enjoy Watermelon ResponsiblySummer is delicious. We know you’re going to want to beat the heat with popsicles, ice cream and other frozen sugary sweets — and that’s okay, in moderation.

The addition of braces means there are many more nooks and crannies for sugars and bits of food to get stuck. So after you enjoy summer treats remember to brush your teeth well to prevent discoloration, cavities and gum disease.

Continue to avoid foods that are going to be hard on your braces. Don’t crunch on ice cubes, and if you are going to eat watermelon go for seedless.

Have a Great Summer

We hope you have a great summer enjoying time with family and friends. Don’t forget to schedule an appointment before you go, call us at 1-800-832-3464.
