Meyer Orthodontics in Brookings Blog

Meet Dr. Paul Meyer

Dr. Paul Meyer

This July, we welcome Dr. Paul Meyer to the Meyer Orthodontics team! Paul Meyer is a Brookings native and youngest son of Dr. David Meyer. Dr. Paul received his orthodontic training at the Mayo Clinic Orthodontic Residency Program and prior to that completed dental school at the University of Minnesota. Dr. David also attended the Mayo Clinic for residency and they are the first father/son combination to graduate from the Mayo Clinic Orthodontic Program. Let’s get to know Paul!

Dr. Paul Meyer will join our Meyer Orthodontic Team in July of 2019.

Q: What are you most looking forward to, in your return to Brookings?

Paul: I’m excited to reconnect with the community, be closer to family, and be back in South Dakota. It will be fun to see what has changed and what is exactly the same. Also Nick’s Hamburgers and Zesto!

Q: Why did you become an orthodontist?

Paul: I love being able to help people and solve complex problems. I get to work with an awesome team. Orthodontics is a combination of art and science and I love the challenge. It is also so rewarding to help people get the smile they’ve always wanted.

Q: Tell us about your family?

Paul: My wife Rachel and I were married in 2017 and couldn’t be happier! Rachel is originally from Moorhead, MN but went to Augustana University for college so she knows South Dakota is pretty great.

Q: How long did it take to become an orthodontist?

Paul: I went to Luther College in Decorah, IA for undergrad followed by four years of dental school at the Univeristy of Minnesota. After dental school I completed my Orthodontic Residency at the Mayo Clinic, which lasted 3 years. A grand total of 11 years after high school!

Q: Will you be working with Dr. David?

Paul: I am so excited to work alongside my father as a team. We will both be seeing patients and are excited to continue to provide excellent orthodontic care. Not to mention, making some lifelong memories working with my Dad.

Q: What do you like to do for fun?

Paul: I love to be outside hiking and biking. I listen to a lot of podcasts. I like to cook, I make a pretty mean homemade pizza.

Q: Burritos or Pizza?

Paul: I love both but gotta go with pizza.
