Your Treatment with Clear Aligners

  • What are Clear Aligners?

Aligner treatment involves wearing a series of clear, removable trays that gradually straighten your teeth. This treatment is available for a variety of ages and tooth movement prescriptions, and we’ll let you know if clear aligners are an option for your treatment.

  • 3D Scan

    No Goopy Impressions

We will take a 3D scan of your teeth at your initial consultation and throughout treatment to ensure the best fit of aligners from beginning to end. Your aligners are custom-ordered with the 3D scan, so there is some time between placing the order and their manufacturing and delivery.

  • Consult

    Optimized Attachments

On the day of your start appointment, we’ll bond attachments to some of your teeth. These are geometrically shaped filling material that allow the aligners to grip and move the teeth more efficiently and predictably. Placing these takes minutes.

  • Take Your Smile Home

We’ll seat the aligners to ensure a comfortable fit, smoothing any surfaces as needed. You’ll go home with a few weeks’ worth of trays. Each week, when you switch to the next aligner, you may notice some tightness, perhaps even localized to a single tooth. This will decrease over the course of the week.

  • A Tech-Savvy Treatment Option

With your aligner treatment, you’ll have the option to participate in remote Dental Monitoring. By scanning your teeth at home on your smartphone, you may be able to limit the number of in-person visits you need during your treatment.

Care & Maintenance

  • Brushing and Flossing

Take out your aligners to eat, brush your teeth, and drink anything other than water.

Whenever possible, brush your teeth before putting your aligners back in.

If not possible, swish some water to remove larger pieces of food debris.

To clean your aligners, brush them with water when brushing your teeth.

Ask our clinic about a DentalPod for more thorough cleaning of your aligners.

  • Lost an Aligner or Broken Attachments?

If you lose a set of aligners, return to the previous week’s tray and let us know so we can rush order your current tray. If you’re near the end of the week, it may make sense to jump to the next week early. These visits and replacement orders are expected from time to time and are included in your treatment plan at no additional cost to you.

Broken attachments mean that the tooth isn’t moving as expected - call the clinic immediately if this issue arises, and we’ll determine the urgency with you and schedule a comfort appointment.
