Elastics 101
-

What are Elastics?
Elastics are tiny rubber bands that move your teeth in a way that braces alone can’t. They help improve how upper and lower teeth fit together (your bite). You hook elastics onto your braces or clear aligners
-

It's a Learning Curve
It may take a few days to learn how to put in your elastics. You have been provided with a little hook, called a placer, to help insert and remove them.
-

Do elastics hurt?
For the first week, your mouth may be a little sore, or you may have a slight headache. Over-the-counter pain relievers may help.
Wearing Your Elastics
-
GULP! I swallowed a rubber band!
Elastics can break. You might feel one snap in your mouth. Once in a while, you might even swallow one. This isn’t a problem. Just replace the broken elastic. Also replace the elastic on the opposite side.
Call the office if you run out of elastics.

-
Which teeth do I put them on?
Refer to the instructions provided at your elastics appointment.
Dr. Paul and your orthodontic assistant have indicated on the diagram where to hook your elastics.
Call the office if you need help remembering where or when to wear & change elastics.
