Observation & Early Treatment
A visit early can mean faster, simpler care later
There are a lot of benefits to patients when they are seen at a younger age (7 or 8), and we can catch any potential complications early.
Every patient has unique needs, so we are happy to meet with you to discuss your child’s dental development and create a plan for the future.
Check out our fun Molar Bears Club information below for more details on early monitoring and intervention!

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an initial visit at age 7, but that doesn’t always mean your child needs braces!
After your free consultation, your child automatically becomes a member of the Molar Bears Club, is scheduled for check-up appointments, and joins our quarterly email newsletter family!

At your initial visit, there are a few possible recommendations for young patients:
Growth Monitoring - monitoring at free annual visits to ensure permanent teeth don’t get stuck
Tooth Guidance - early extraction of primary teeth to allow permanent teeth to come into position without damaging other teeth
Early Intervention - early treatment with braces and/or a maxillary expander
-
There are a number of reasons Dr. Paul prefers to monitor patients vs. starting treatment right away:
Baby Teeth: Many baby teeth are present with no risk
Efficiency of Treatment: We want you to spend the least amount of time in braces or aligners. No immediate risk = observation
Timing with Growth: We may wait and start treatment during your growth spurt age or even after growth has peaked, depending on your unique bite and treatment plan
-
Everyone’s smile is different, and there is no one-size-fits-all timeline for treatment. However, if you notice any of the following, give us a call to move your next check-up appointment sooner!
Baby teeth are not getting loose, while permanent teeth are coming in front of or behind them
Permanent teeth are taking longer to come in than expected after losing baby teeth
Pain, discomfort, or difficulty keeping crowded teeth clean
Concern about trauma or self-consciousness
Your dentist recommends another check-up sooner

Around age 7 or 8, schedule them for their initial exam. We’ll take records and make a plan that’s customized to your kiddo!
Your visit means you’re part of the club!
Generations of Meyer Orthodontics patients
Meyer Orthodontics is a multi-generation, family practice. Family is at the center of who we are.
We’ll work with your schedule to see multiple family members, including multiple siblings if possible to be sure we’re able to check in on the dental progress of each patient.
“We've had a wonderful experience so far. The staff is very friendly and Dr Meyer is extremely professional as well as down to earth and approachable. Also like their financing options for people who don't have orthodontic insurance. Very pleased and would highly recommend his office to anyone.”
